sometimes i wonder, why i'm still waitingSOMETIMES I'M SHAKING, THAT'S HOW YOU MAKE ME.Her birthday had been good. All her friends had been there and they had seemed to have a good time. That was what carleigh wanted. Everyone was in a good mood and no drama had occurred. It was certainly a success. It didn't matter that they hadn't really done anything fun. All that mattered was that they were there. Really, all they had to do was get in a circle and talk to make carleigh happy. She was easily pleased, and this birthday was certainly a good one. She was eighteen now, and with that came a lot of responsibilities. She had received the talk many times and by now she could almost spout it off just like her mother did. She was a grown-up now, and she was going to have to take responsibility for all of her actions now, not just some. Carleigh was ready. She had never been so ready to be so old in her life, but now that she had arrived at this age, she never wanted to age another year. This right here was perfect for her.
Now everyone had slowly made their way out, including her parents who had stayed an extra ten minutes just to tell carleigh how old she was and how she had grown up to be such a beautiful young lady. She had heard it all before, but she was glad that her parents didn't regret her. She had been a tough little girl to raise, and she would admit that she gave them hell every step of the way. Carleigh sighed softly and looked around the house, everyone was gone and she couldn't help but feel that weird loneliness that people sometimes felt. She didn't like it. She was quite aware of not having anyone to love in her current state, but maybe with her turning eighteen that would change.
Her 'relationship' with Noah was certainly an interesting one. If a relationship is what you could even call it. She was at a loss of what to do or say, he got to her every time and he knew it good and well. She wished he would have stayed a little longer though, she hadn't seen him leave but she surely didn't see anyone still here. Shaking her head as if to shake the thoughts out the girl began to gather up her cards and gift backs, sort of reminiscing on the times she shared with people until she swore she heard footsteps. Carleigh spun around, dropping everything in her hands as she did as she gaped towards the general area she had thought she had heard the footsteps. The girl wasn't good with noises in her house, she was a baby about anything given the right opportunity. She didn't like to be scared, but then again, who really did? It didn't matter, because at this general moment she was scared shitless.
It didn't matter that the thought of someone still being in her house because of the party didn't come to mind. What mattered was the fact that she could be killed by some... killer because she hadn't locked her door after everyone left. Her heart was beating ten times it's normal rate and the girl's eyes darted around in chance that she might see something. But what she saw didn't make her jump, in fact, it made her smile. And, feeling like the idiot she was, stand straight instead of crouching low as if she were about to attack something... or someone for that matter. damnit Noah, you scared the hell out of me... she voiced, taking a deep breath in to calm herself.

maybe he was acting on impulse, but noah swore to himself that this wouldn't be the way the night ended. it was bad enough that someone else had answered the door when he had arrived to the party, when he had been so thrilled to see her face. the final straw was the fleeting moments of interaction between the two of them. he made it known that he was there, yet carleigh was occupied with her buzzing friends and family. because of this, he didn't force himself on her. he just bargained in his own mind, that he would stay behind, at least to wish her a special happy birthday. if that's all that would happen, it would be fine with him. he just wanted a few brief moments to hold the girl that would finally be considered his.
the two had been waiting for this date for a while. now that it had arrived, noah was sort of dreading it. not because of carleigh. certainly not. but because of himself, and his inability to press himself further. it was obvious what she wanted from him. but he wasn't positive that he could just act on command. whenever it was brought up, there was a brief argument between them, and it eventually led to the subject becoming completely avoided. he had stayed at her place on only one occasion, and nothing had happened. that was a lot more nerve wracking than a simple conversation. and yet, noah felt a bit panicked. not in a childish way, but in an unsure way. he didn't know how he was going to handle the situation when the timing finally came.
after careful consideration, the boy just found himself lingering in the kitchen; a place that marked the next step in their relationship. it had been the night that he chose to stay over, and also just a fun version of a date. of course, it wasn't a date. noah refused to call them a "couple." he couldn't stand the thought of it before it was actually legal. of course, there was no law declaring that the two couldn't be together. yet, they couldn't exactly be together in every aspect of the word. that's what tripped him up. if they were going to consider themselves "dating," then noah wanted it to be perfect. he wanted every single benefit of the relationship, to make it special for carleigh. she deserved an amazing guy; and because he wasn't exactly the best of the best, he would at least try to act like he somewhat deserved to be with her, even if it was completely untrue.
he was repeatedly shuffling through drawers, and cupboards. anything to entertain himself. he would just stand there, leaning against the counter, until someone would walk in, and then he would pretend to be preoccupied. he must have done about one hundred and fifty laps around the entire kitchen; anything to avoid the party itself. he didn't want to spoil his surprise at the end. not once had carleigh ventured into the kitchen, either, which was both disappointing, and a relief. if she had, his plans would have been ruined. but he did miss her. it was obvious that the relationship the two shared was confusing. he felt guilty, but he refused to give too many details. tonight, everything would be explained. there would be no more worries, no more problems, no more arguments. just carefree bliss, and the girl, finally, wrapped in his arms.
he didn't really mean to send her mixed signals. it just sort of.. happened. as much as he wanted to refrain from confusing her, from leading her into thinking they were anything more than really good friends, he couldn't keep himself away from her. whenever he was around her, and even when he wasn't, the only thing he could think of was taking her into his arms, and holding her there forever. he wanted to kiss her, to hug her. to just be with her. and it made everything that much more difficult. everything about her was beautiful to him; her wide eyes, her perfectly shaped face. her long hair that he loved to play with. her smile. the very picture of her in his mind gave him chills. not only that, but her laugh. her laugh was amazing to him; so soft, yet so defined. he could feel genuine happiness through that laugh, and it made him feel.. complete, somehow, knowing that the happiness was because of him. as much as it annoyed him, her wit was another thing he loved about her. she was stubborn, and she didn't always understand, but she had an attitude that he couldn't help but to admire. she was amazing to him, and she always doubted her greatness. it was saddening, but at the same time, it gave him the opportunity to prove it to her.
as the party died down, noah planned his moves. so far, nobody he knew had found him in his elaborate hiding spot, in plain sight. he was sure that there were familiar voices just outside of the door, but none had ventured into the kitchen to spot him. all those who had stopped by, hadn't suspected the boy making rounds around the room, although he did get a few strange looks fro the visitors who had been there more than once, to find him doing the same thing. he just offered a polite smile, and continued to make a fool of himself. at first, his blood pressure had been rising out of nervousness. but now, noah was completely confident to surprise her with his presence; not to startle her, but to actually get to see her. he listened as goodbye's were exchanged, and foot steps shuffled out the door.
of course, there was always a chance that the girl had forgotten. if that was the case, then all of the problems could be avoided, and put off until another night. however, knowing carleigh, she hadn't forgotten. in fact, he was almost positive that she hadn't. she brought it up almost every opportunity that she had. as the last guest excused himself, noah swallowed air, and turned to leave the kitchen. trying to move as silently as possible, he cursed himself as his shoes scuffed the tile, making it obvious that someone was still there. he heard her pause in the other room, and almost laughed when he rounded the corner, seeing her in a worried stance. instead of teasing her, though, he simply smiled widely at the girl, shaking his head, and crossing the room towards her.
her comment was what broke his silence. he let out a quick laugh, unable to stop himself from shaking his head a second time. "my goodness, carls. you would think you had seen a ghost." his eyes settled on her, shining brightly with the sight of her. it was a very cliche saying, but it seemed to apply here. he let out a another laugh, before settling with a goofy grin on his face. "i just wanted to wish you happy birthday.. you know, face to face." though noah didn't mean to, he found himself appraising her. she looked beautiful, as she always did. "eighteen suits you well. you look gorgeous." he wanted to reach out and hug her, badly. he wanted nothing more than to kiss those lips, to take her delicate face in his hands. but, he would refrain himself. they wouldn't rush anything. if things were to work it the way he hoped, everything would go right. tonight, he would make the girl his.

sometimes i wonder, why i'm still waitingSOMETIMES I'M SHAKING, THAT'S HOW YOU MAKE ME.Carleigh sighed in relief as she once again realized it was only Noah. She smiled. It was only Noah. She hadn't seen him around during the party, she had expected him to at least say hello to her mother, father, and some of her family that he knew. He had been around for quite some time, and although her family didn't know him well, they knew of him. Maybe he had though, and she had just not been around to see it. She sure hoped so, Noah was like something she could show off to her parents, make them think she was doing something good and productive in her life. She didn't fucking know. All she knew now was that he had stayed behind to see her, and she was more than ecstatic as he spoke. Hearing his voice nearly brought chills to her skin, she was really glad he had stayed after everyone had left.
His laugh was charming, and made her smile a little as she replied to him, For a minute there, I kind of thought I had! she said, bringing her hand to rest over her heart, which seemed to be beating a little faster, and louder for that matter. Although she wasn't really sure whether it was the fact that she had thought someone had been in her house or the fact that he was here with her now. His eyes locked on her for a moment and Carleigh couldn't help but notice the elephant in the room, so to speak. It was obvious what they were both thinking, but she wasn't going to utter a word about it. She had pressed him on it far too long to bring it up again. If it was going to be brought up, he could do it, she had faith in him. Because from what she knew, he wanted her just as badly as she wanted him, and he wouldn't wait to long before he could have her. The girl nodded softly with a grin playing at her lips, yeah, thanks Noah, I'm glad you stayed behind to tell me. she said, smiling at him sweetly.
The girl giggled and shook her head, oh, well thanks.. again. she laughed, a tinge of pink hinting her cheeks. He was always complimenting her in whatever way he could. She never really knew how to take it. No one had ever complimented her as much as he did, and of course now every time she was around him she craved it. To have him tell her she looked beautiful made her day now, whereas it used to not be that way. She hated depending on something that trivial too, and she hated how if he didn't, she noticed. It was stupid to think about, she knew, but it was something that came along with having him around. But there were many other benefits of having him around. He gave the best hugs, he was the best cuddler... and kisser for that matter. But she knew she was biased. She had waited long and hard for this day, the both had. And now that it had come, it was kind of like watching paint dry. Waiting for that moment to acknowledge it was the worst part, but she didn't let it get to her.
Dropping the things she had in her hands quickly she sauntered over to him slowly, kind of gauging herself for what he might do. She didn't care, the girl didn't hesitate any as she outstretched her arms toward him and pulled him into a huge hug. Closing her eyes softly the girl let out a giggle, she was happy to have him here and she was happy that she was able to stay behind and talk to him like this. She felt the need to speak, but she honestly couldn't find a way to even begin. There was too much to say, and there was far to many things that were running through her mind right now. Questions of how long he was planning to stay, questions of if she should finish cleaning, or relax for a little while with him.
She didn't linger on them for too long, her mind had been made up ever since he had stepped past the door so she could see him. planning on staying a while? Carleigh bit her lip, hoping for the answer that she wanted. She didn't want him to leave now, she had waited too long for this day to have him leave now. There was so much to say anyway, there was no way he could leave, she just wouldn't let him at this point. It was kind of comical to think about what she would end up being forced to do if he did try to leave, but she didn't entertain the idea for long. Looking up at him and practically begging him to stay with her eyes would be persuasion enough.

while he focused on her reaction, noah found his mind wandering. would this be a mistake? she didn't look entirely too thrilled to see him, and for a minute, he was guilty for scaring her like that. she was wide eyed, and flushed, as if she really had seen a ghost, and it made a hint of worry flash through his eyes. he didn't want to push himself on her, or make the situation uncomfortable in any way. but, sadly, it already seemed to be awkward, and unnerving, and he basically wanted to run for it. staring at the girl, though, he couldn't bring himself to move even the slightest inch away from her. it was like he was magnetically drawn to her. it would take a lot of force to pull him out of reach, and even then, he would be arguing the whole time just to go back and be with her. that's just how pathetically attached her had grown.
he resisted the urge to chew on his lip, something he often yelled at her for doing, wondering whether or not he should have socialized a bit. maybe that would have made things a little less awkward. her family had been there; he knew quite a few of them. but, he might be frowned upon by her father or mother, simply because of the age gap that worried him so. it would have been awkward, seeing as today was the day that legally the two could "be together," and her parents were well aware of their somewhat relationship. facing her father would have been particularly uncomfortable for him. after rolling the ideas around in his head for a moment, noah settled on the fact that not talking to anyone had been a good plan on his part. that would have only made him more eager to rush out the door, and abandon the plan he had so carefully devised inside of his mind. he already was wary on whether or not to do this.
a smile danced on his lips as he watched her hand fly to her heart. he knew it was because she was startled, but he couldn't help the feeling inside of him that wished it had been because of him. he knew better than to think so, but the thought gave him a few chills up his spine. "well," the smile he had been restraining finally came through, along with a short laugh. "my apologies, then, my lady." his smile finally faded into a less noticeable one, and then he fell silent, waiting as the room got awkwardly quiet. he felt his muscles tense up with the silence, suddenly breaking into a slight sweat. not a noticeable amount, but enough to flush his cheeks into a bit of a reddish blend. when she finally spoke again, he quickly replaced his nervousness with a flash of a smile, to ease the tension growing in his back. "come on, carls. you know you don't have to thank me." he felt himself shrug gently. "i wanted to."
her smile made his breath catch in his throat. he couldn't help but smile when he noticed that she had been blushing as well, and he was grateful that she hadn't made any comments on his rosy cheeks. if she had, he would literally feel the need to crawl into a hole, and disappear forever. he couldn't stand looking inferior in any way, not that she was inferior to him at all. he just wanted to seem like he had his shit together, even if he was completely confused half of the time, and had to throw his weight around just to get rewarding results. her laugh made his insides melt; he literally felt a warmth rush through him. it was one of his favorite thing about her, and whenever he heard it, he was practically a puddle at her feet. that laugh let him know that everything was alright, and that things weren't as tricky as they often seemed. another goofy grin shot across his face, as he shook his head, rejecting her second thank you. "really, carleigh. there's no need to thank me." he held up his hands, as if to stop her.
as she wandered towards him with out stretched arms, it took noah a brief second to react. he hadn't really focused on the fact that he hadn't hugged her yet; that was normally the first thing he did when he saw her. realizing that he hadn't really seen her at all through the day concluded the confusion inside of his mind, and before he could think about it much longer, she was pulling him to her. he smiled softly, snaking his hands back around her waist. her giggles made his face flush again, and he was glad that she couldn't see the stupidly large smile that had found its way onto his face. he kissed the top of her head gently, enjoying their embrace, the smell of her, the sight of her in his arms, where he had longed for her to be throughout the entire night. this was one of the main things he had been waiting for, holding her. he was glad the moment finally arrived.
the girl was suddenly peering up at him, and it took him a moment to process what she was saying. did he want to stay? well, of course he did. he just didn't want the night to be as awkward as it had been so far. it wasn't incredibly carefree, as he had hoped it would have been. he peered around the room, taking in all of the empty and half full cups scattered everywhere, the crumpled napkins, dirty plates. she definitely would have her hands full for the rest of the night picking the place up. maybe it would delay things for a while, which was exactly what he needed. but, instead of inflicting this whole mess upon her, despite how selfish he was feeling, noah simply smiled and shook his head. of course he would stay. of course he would help her out. she needed it, and he was conveniently there. he couldn't leave her to handle this all by herself. that would just be cruel. "are you trying to recruit me on to the clean up crew?" he smirked at her, hoping the blush wasn't obvious on his cheeks.

sometimes i wonder, why i'm still waitingSOMETIMES I'M SHAKING, THAT'S HOW YOU MAKE ME.Carleigh wasn't easily this scared, it was just the fact that she had thought she had been alone, but she had been proven to be wrong by now and the girl was slowly regaining her regular pulse as she listened to him speak. Carleigh shook her head softly and gave him a soft wave of her hand, no, noah, it's fine, don't worry. Just a small fright. she said with a shrug of her shoulders, the girl grinned. I'm fine now, don't worry. she laughed, he really had been apologetic. It wasn't that big of a deal to her, really. With a soft sigh she let her eyes wander over him for a moment, taking in the sight of him and the feeling of having him here with her. Even if he wasn't close and even if they weren't really talking about anything in particular she loved being around him like this, just to say that she had seen him today, it was worth it. Her feelings for him by now, were inevitable.
The moment wasn't awkward for carleigh, moments with him never were really, it was always he who made her feel even slightly awkward, but that was okay, she was used to that from him, she had grown to anticipate it now. But watching him now, it kind of amused her, either she really didn't realize the affect she had on him, or she was really blind, and at the moment she was leaning onto the latter. Maybe it was the fact that she had been far too involved with her own thoughts and feelings around him to focus on his reactions to what she did and said, or maybe it was the realization that today was the day they had been waiting for and anticipating for so long, he would naturally be awkward and nervous, but that didn't matter. She still found it cute as can be no matter how many times he told her it wasn't, she still wouldn't agree with him to this day.
Carleigh laughed and nodded, she knew she didn't have to thank him, it was just that she wanted to. That, and it felt appropriate to do so, how could she not thank him after flattering her so much? It meant so much more coming from him, it would be just wrong not to thank him for his generosity. I know, I know, it just feels right to thank someone after a compliment like that. she said nodding as a slight blush crept on her cheeks. She couldn't really help but blush around him, there were so many things that he did on a daily basis that made her do so, and he knew it good and well, but so did she really. She just wasn't mean enough to comment on them, she enjoyed his blush really, and it was kind of making her day all the more special as she watched him struggle to keep his emotions in check. They had waited so long for this day, she was just ecstatic that it had turned out this good already. She was just glad that he had decided to stay afterward, she would have been really upset if he would have left without saying goodbye, and not really talking that much during the party in the first place, she regretted that, but she was glad that he had found a reason to stay behind anyway. She wanted no one here but him, and she was getting her wish.
Carleigh just sighed as he told her once again not to thank him, he would probably always tell her that, and she would probably always go against his wish and do it anyway, it made her feel somewhat modest, the girl had to say something. she couldn't just take a compliment from him without saying a word, that was just rude. And with a soft shake of her head and a grin that told him that he knew what she would have said if she had chosen to speak the girl's eyes were drawn back to the floor again, biting down on her lip as a content sigh escaped her lips. Carleigh grinned as his arms wrapped around her in a hug, she felt safe here in his arms and she had a feeling he knew that quite well. He should, after all this time. He kissed her head and the smile that lifted her lips couldn't compare to any other smile she had given him that day, she was really that happy.
The girl laughed though as he asked her if she had recruited him to clean, nooo, i'm just glad to see you Noah, you know that.. thanks for staying behind. she said, biting her lip gently and hugging him again, looking up quickly, half in hopes that he might possibly brush his lips upon hers, but she doubted it, she didn't want to startle the boy, he was already blushing enough as it was.
