Running always helped Asher clear his mind, he didn’t know why that was because he never really cared to run any other time. But today, he found himself at the track and running until he couldn’t feel his legs anymore. His mind had been clouded lately with different thoughts, different rumors and he was hoping that they were all wrong. He had given his heart to a girl and she had run away with it – no reason given, no phone call. She just up and left him, taking his heart with her. Sighing at the thought, he pushed his legs to bring him around the track another time, though he was already starting to feel that exhaustion kick in. He was starting to feel like jello and he would probably end up collapsing on the grass in a matter of minutes, but he didn’t care. He needed to run. He needed to get his thoughts figured out, he needed to try and outrun what he was feeling, no matter how impossible that was – he was going to try. Pushing his legs to go around again, he tried to filter himself, he tried to keep her out of his mind, but he couldn’t. He couldn’t stop thinking about her and why she left. He had changed for her. He had stopped sleeping around because of her and he had straightened himself out. All for what, for her to leave him? The thought made his blood boil a little bit and he wanted to just move himself to a bar and drink until he couldn’t’ stand anymore. But he wouldn’t. He was changed for good now. He didn’t want to be that guy that he used to be. But he wasn’t going to just hand his heart out anymore. No, in fact, he would keep it safely guarded from now on.
Sighing, he finally let his legs stop. He moved off of the track on to the green field in the center of it and collapsed. Lying back, his head tilted slightly as he stared up at the sky, his breathing irregular as he tried to catch his breath. He was definitely feeling out of shape right about now but he didn’t care. He wished that he could just erase the last several months of his life. He had fallen in love with her too quickly, he knew that and all she did was tear his heart out and leave him. Sighing, he rubbed his eyes tiredly and stayed laying there almost lifelessly in the grass. He was going to regret this tomorrow, he could feel his muscles already tensing up and the grass was already causing him to itch. Sighing, he closed his eyes for a moment before forcing himself to sit up. Noticing his things over by one of the bleachers, he forced himself to his feet and walked over grabbing the Gatorade that was sitting next to his bag. Pulling out a towel, he wiped his forehead, his dirty blonde hair was a mess by the time he was done drying himself off and he finally quenched his thirst as he chugged down half of his Gatorade in a matter of moments. Laughing at himself, he shook his head. He felt pathetic right about now and he really wished that he had something to take his mind off of things. Lately, the people around him had either been filling him in on the latest gossip about his ex-girlfriend, or they’ve been pitting him. And a fraction of the female population at school had been trying to get in his pants since she left, but much to their surprise, Asher declined any advances and had pretty much been keeping to himself. It was times like these that he wished he just knew somebody out there that didn’t care about what was going on in his life and would just help him keep his mind off of it, but it seemed like everyone he knew right now only cared about trying to make him more miserable – even if they weren’t trying too.
